Johannes and Natangwe Armas Arrested in Windhoek Theft

CCTV footage leads to arrest and recovery of stolen bag

by Amelia Crawford

Two suspected thieves have been arrested and placed in custody after CCTV footage enabled Windhoek City Police to identify and track them following a vehicle break-in.

The arrests stem from the theft of a bag from a parked motor vehicle last Friday. Police said surveillance cameras captured the suspects in the act, allowing officers and monitoring personnel to coordinate a rapid response.

Authorities confirmed the stolen bag was successfully recovered and contained a laptop along with several important documents.

The accused were identified as Johannes Armas, 42, and Natangwe Armas, 35. Both have since appeared in court, where their bail applications were denied. They are expected to remain in custody until their next scheduled court appearance on February 17, 2026.

Police said the case underscores the growing importance of surveillance technology in strengthening crime prevention and law enforcement efforts across the city.

With the festive season underway, police urged residents to remain vigilant by ensuring vehicle windows are closed, doors are locked, and valuables are not left inside parked cars.
