by Sophia Bennett

A federal court has sentenced a Manhattan man to 60 years in prison after he led a conspiracy to produce child pornography.

Joel Womochil, 39, a former Burns police chief, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge John Broomes on March 28 for two counts of conspiracy to commit sexual exploitation of a child — production of child pornography.

Judge Broomes sentenced Womochil to serve 30 years for each count, with the sentences running consecutively, amounting to a total of 60 years in prison. In addition, Womochil was ordered to pay restitution of $529,000. The judge also recommended that Womochil be incarcerated in a facility that provides a Sex Offender Management Program.
