OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – A man has been arrested in connection with an attempted arson that took place early Saturday morning in southwest Oklahoma City, police confirmed.

The Oklahoma City Police Department identified the suspect as Joe Stanfield. Investigators say Stanfield poured gasoline around a home near Southwest 77th Street and South Pennsylvania Avenue and ignited it. Fortunately, family members inside the home quickly extinguished the flames.

Stanfield fled the scene but was later apprehended by officers.

Police also revealed that Stanfield had been involved in a domestic dispute at the same residence the night before. Officers responded to that incident after Stanfield reportedly demanded that family members vacate the home. At the time, police said there was no legal basis to remove anyone.

Following Saturday’s incident, Stanfield was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on an arson complaint and remains in custody.
