Job Scam in Karnataka: Woman Arrested for Defrauding Job Seekers

Cyberabad cybercrime sleuths have arrested a 30-year-old woman in Kalburagi, Karnataka, for allegedly defrauding job seekers under the pretext of providing employment opportunities in multinational companies (MNCs). The accused, Reshma alias Swapna, posed as a senior HR manager and targeted potential candidates through phone calls.

According to police reports, once a job seeker showed interest in the offers, they were asked to pay an advance processing fee. Reshma then sent fake emails and offer letters that appeared to be from reputable organizations. After receiving the payments, she would cease communication with the victims.

The scam came to light after an MBA graduate reported receiving calls from Reshma and her associate, Pydi Supreethi, who promised assistance with mass hiring. Trusting Reshma, the victim referred several candidates, collected advance payments, and sent their resumes to the accused. Ultimately, the victims lost about Rs58.75 lakh.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that Reshma had worked as a telecaller in the scam, while her ex-husband, Mohammed Ali, orchestrated the fraud. Two other accomplices, Fazil Patel and Firdous, were responsible for sending fake emails and obtaining multiple SIM cards. The gang allegedly used various accounts to funnel the illicit funds.

Reshma is reportedly involved in multiple cases across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. Police efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other accused, as the investigation unfolds.
