Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested two men accused of stealing building materials from a home under construction in eastern Bexar County near Converse, in what Sheriff Javier Salazar says is part of a larger theft ring.
Authorities traced security camera footage from a reported $3,000 OSB plank theft to a West Side residence, where deputies found tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of additional stolen construction supplies. In total, investigators recovered $80,000 in materials, enough to fill two 18-wheelers.
Two men were arrested on felony theft charges: Joaquin Sanchez Rodriguez, 28, and Nicandro Sanchez Rodriguez, 35. Sheriff Salazar did not confirm if the two are related.
Salazar said he expects more arrests as the investigation continues. “My understanding is these guys are in the business of doing that. They would go to homes under construction, steal materials, and then resell these materials at a cheaper price to other homeowners,” he explained.
The sheriff noted that BCSO receives frequent calls about stolen construction materials, particularly electric breakers and appliances. Homeowners are encouraged to lock equipment, secure building materials, and schedule appliance deliveries close to installation to prevent theft.
