In a continued effort to combat the drug menace in society, J&K Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Budgam and Handwara, recovering significant amounts of contraband substances from their possession.
According to a police statement, authorities at Police Post Mochwa received reliable information that Saqlain Mushtaq, a resident of Batpora Chadoora, was hiding contraband substances at his house. Acting on this tip-off, a search warrant was obtained from the Hon’ble Court, and a raid was carried out by a police team in the presence of the Executive Magistrate. During the search, officers recovered 545 grams of a charas-like substance, 230 grams of grinded charas-like substance, and 33.10 kg of semi-grinded cannabis leaves from the location. Saqlain Mushtaq was arrested, and a case under relevant sections of the law has been registered. The investigation is ongoing.
In Handwara, during a routine naka checking at Baghatpora Crossing, a suspicious individual was intercepted by the police. The person, later identified as Ashiq Ahmad Shah, a resident of Kachwari Handwara, was found to be carrying 8.93 grams of a heroin-like substance. In another operation at Badkote Handwara, Bilal Ahmad Najar, a resident of Badrehar Handwara, was arrested after 63 grams of charas-like substance was found in his possession.
Cases have been registered in Police Station Handwara regarding these arrests, and investigations are continuing to identify further links in the drug trade.
J&K Police are steadfast in their mission to eliminate drug-related activities in the region and protect the community.
