In a well-executed operation, the Sola High Court police station has cracked a high-value theft case involving the burglary of gold jewellery worth over Rs12 lakh from a jeweller’s shop in Ahmedabad. The accused, Harsh Bipinbhai Solanki (20), a former employee of the jewellery shop, has been arrested, and the stolen items have been successfully recovered.
The incident occurred at Sona Mohor Jewellers, located at Satya Surya Complex near the Sola BRTS Bridge. Solanki had been hired as a salesman on April 7, just a day after applying for a job at the jeweller’s store in response to an advertisement posted on social media. However, on April 8, within just one day of starting his new job, Solanki stole six gold rings and three gold chains, totaling 154 grams of gold jewellery, worth an estimated Rs12.32 lakh.
The complaint was filed by Harshit Kumar Shah, a jeweller and the owner of Sona Mohor Jewellers, under BNS Section 306 at the Sola High Court police station. Following this, the police initiated an investigation into the case.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that Solanki, who previously worked at a jewellery store in Rajkot, had the necessary knowledge of how jewellery shops operate. Facing financial difficulties and unemployment, he took advantage of the opportunity to commit the theft shortly after being hired.
Using CCTV footage and technical surveillance, the police tracked Solanki through his mobile number. Initial attempts to locate him in Dahod proved unsuccessful, but further surveillance led them to Rajkot, where he was detained and brought to Ahmedabad for questioning.
During the interrogation, Solanki confessed that he had pledged the stolen gold jewellery for a loan of Rs8.65 lakh at SBFC Pvt Finance Company. The stolen jewellery has since been recovered, and Solanki was produced before the court, where he was granted police custody for further investigation.
