CHRISTOPHER, Ill. – A 46-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly attacking an elderly man during an attempted theft in rural Christopher, Illinois.
On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, officers from the Christopher Police Department, with assistance from the Zeigler Police Department, responded to a report of an assault.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an 80-year-old male victim outside his home with visible facial injuries. Authorities say their investigation revealed the man’s caretaker, Jessica L. Sims, allegedly tried to steal personal items and money. When the victim confronted her, she reportedly attacked him.
While clearing the residence, police encountered Sims holding a knife-like object. Officers successfully disarmed her, but she resisted arrest and caused property damage during the struggle.
Sims, a resident of Gorham, Illinois, was taken into custody and transported to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. She is facing several serious charges, including:
Aggravated battery
Burglary
Theft
Resisting arrest
The victim received medical attention at the scene. Police have not yet released further information on his condition.
