PENSACOLA, Fla. — A Miami woman is facing serious legal trouble after being accused of submitting dozens of fraudulent petitions in support of a marijuana-related constitutional amendment.
Jessica Sonia Humphreys, 24, has been charged with 72 counts of petition fraud and 72 counts of perjury, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). Investigators say Humphreys, a paid petition gatherer for the group “Safe and Smart Florida,” submitted fraudulent signatures while collecting petitions across several North Florida counties, including Escambia and Santa Rosa.
The investigation began in January 2023, when the Santa Rosa County Supervisor of Elections flagged suspicious petition submissions. FDLE agents later confirmed that some petitions contained fictitious names.
Humphreys was first arrested on Jan. 29, 2024, on 34 counts of petition fraud and perjury in Santa Rosa County. After posting bail, she failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing.
On Aug. 15, 2025, during a routine traffic stop, Coral Springs Police arrested Humphreys on an additional 38 counts of petition fraud and perjury tied to Escambia County. She was transferred from Broward County Jail to Escambia County Jail on Aug. 26.
She now also faces additional charges for failing to appear in court.
