TIVERTON, R.I. —
A New Bedford man with an outstanding arrest warrant is facing several charges after allegedly stealing from vehicles at the Tiverton Casino and fleeing from police.
Police say Jesse Dossantos, 37, was spotted by an officer around 10:15 a.m. Monday. The officer recognized him as resembling a suspect in two recent theft cases, including larcenies from vehicles reported on April 28 at the casino.
When approached, Dossantos allegedly provided a false name and date of birth before suddenly fleeing southbound on Stafford Road. While running, he reportedly threw a black bag that officers later recovered.
Several officers joined the foot pursuit, which extended into a wooded area, where Dossantos was eventually taken into custody.
Police say the discarded bag contained stolen items linked to the earlier thefts. Dossantos was also wanted on an active warrant out of Fairhaven and is now facing new charges including obstructing an officer, receiving stolen goods, and being a fugitive from justice.
