SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. — A Montevallo man has been arrested on 17 charges after a series of vehicle break-ins and thefts, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) reported.
34-year-old Jerry Lee Washington Jr. was apprehended on Sunday, Feb. 1, in south Shelby County. He was initially charged with unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle (UBEV), attempting to elude, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following the arrest, investigators linked Washington to multiple other vehicle break-ins in the Kingdom area, resulting in 12 additional UBEV warrants and two second-degree theft of property warrants.
The theft charges involve firearms, including a Remington 800 shotgun, a Smith & Wesson pistol, and a Springfield 9 mm pistol. Washington is currently being held at the Shelby County Jail on a total bond of $211,500.
According to SCSO, initial reports of vehicle break-ins began in January 2026, prompting deputies to conduct proactive patrols in the area. On Sunday night, deputies observed Washington in the Wilsonville area. He fled on foot when approached, and officers deployed a taser to quickly take him into custody.
