PARAMUS, NJ — A Newark man was arrested for commercial burglary after repeatedly breaking into a Shake Shack restaurant and helping himself to food and merchandise.

The restaurant’s general manager reported the break-ins to police on June 28 around 10:30 p.m. Surveillance footage revealed 26-year-old Jermaine Cambell unlawfully entering the Route 17 South Shake Shack on multiple occasions. The video showed Cambell using the grill to cook food and removing various items from the store.

On June 30, Cambell tried to enter the restaurant again but fled when staff alerted authorities. Officers found him hiding nearby, wearing a Shake Shack T-shirt and carrying a chef’s hat.

Cambell was arrested and charged with burglary and theft. He is currently being held at Bergen County Jail.
