TAMPA, Fla. (WWSB) – A Tampa father, Jermaine Bass, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the fatal shooting of his 5-year-old daughter in 2022. He also received a 25-year sentence for shooting and injuring his 8-year-old son during the same incident.
During the court proceedings, Bass spoke on his own behalf, claiming the tragic event was an “accident.” However, the children’s mother, Shirley, took the stand and pleaded with the judge to impose the maximum sentence.
A jury had previously found Bass guilty of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated child abuse.
With the sentencing finalized, Bass will spend the rest of his life behind bars, while his son continues to recover from the traumatic event.
