Jermaine Barrett, a Jamaican national, is behind bars in Mississippi, accused of attempting to traffic over 1,000 pounds of marijuana and marijuana-infused gummies across the country.
According to the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation, the arrest occurred after a deputy stopped Barrett’s vehicle on Interstate 22. During the stop, authorities seized 715 pounds of marijuana and over 26,500 marijuana-infused gummies, weighing an additional 440 pounds. The drugs, valued at an estimated $2 million, were reportedly being transported from California to North Carolina.
Barrett, who resides in Nevada on a work visa, was arrested for trafficking a controlled substance. No further details have been released by law enforcement at this time.
