EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A Gibson County man has been arrested after allegedly stealing approximately 80 feet of railroad line near Somerville, Indiana.
According to the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), dispatch received a report of the theft near the intersection of County Road 600 South and 1100 East.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies gathered evidence and traced it to a home about 1.5 miles away. During their search, 38-year-old Jeremy Norrington of Oakland City arrived at the property and was questioned about the missing railroad line.
Authorities discovered the railroad line, which had been severely damaged, and returned it to its rightful owner. Each 40-foot section of the line is valued at $4,000.
During the investigation, deputies also recovered a stolen vehicle from Knox County.
Norrington was taken into custody and booked into the Gibson County Jail on charges of Theft. He was also cited for False and Fictitious Registration and Driving While Suspended.
