PLAINFIELD, CT (WFSB) — A 51-year-old Wauregan man, Jeffrey Howard, was arrested over the weekend in Plainfield on a series of serious charges, including domestic violence and impersonating a law enforcement officer.
Police initially conducted a well-being check at Howard’s home on Saturday due to allegations of possible abuse. At the time, the alleged female victim was found safe and no official complaint was filed.
However, early Sunday morning around 1:10 a.m., the victim contacted authorities, reporting that Howard had physically assaulted her after the initial check. Plainfield police launched an immediate investigation.
According to officials, the investigation revealed that Howard had inflicted physical injuries and used emotional manipulation and control tactics. Authorities also discovered that Howard had falsely identified himself as a law enforcement officer. A badge was recovered from the scene.
When officers returned to arrest Howard, he attempted to flee in a vehicle but was quickly apprehended. Police also say he tried to tamper with evidence related to the case.
Howard now faces the following charges:
Disorderly conduct
Second-degree criminal mischief
Impersonation of a police officer
First-degree reckless endangerment
First-degree unlawful restraint
Tampering with evidence
Second-degree assault
Interfering with an officer
Second-degree strangulation
He is being held on a $150,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
