A 21-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal shooting at a Florida City hotel.
Jeffrey Joseph Dabdoub Jr. was arrested Wednesday in connection with the Jan. 26 incident at the Belmont Inn, located at 553 Northeast 1st Avenue.
According to authorities, Dabdoub became involved in a verbal altercation with the victim and armed himself with a firearm, ordering the victim to leave the hotel room. When the victim returned to retrieve property, Dabdoub reportedly pointed the gun at both the victim and the victim’s mother. The confrontation escalated, and Dabdoub fatally shot the victim twice. The victim has not been publicly identified.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said Dabdoub was interviewed and initially released, but further investigation produced evidence contradicting his statements. He has since been booked into jail and is expected in bond court on Thursday.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
