Jeffrey Bashaw Convicted in Schenectady Murder Case

Faces 25 to life for execution-style killing in 2023

Schenectady, NY (WRGB) — Jeffrey Bashaw has been convicted of second-degree murder and multiple related charges in connection with the 2023 execution-style killing of Leroy Chisom at a boarding house on State Street in Schenectady.

The jury returned a guilty verdict on all counts — including four counts of criminal possession of a weapon and seven counts of tampering with physical evidence — after deliberating for less than an hour on August 20, 2025.

Prosecutors proved that Bashaw, along with co-defendant Kevin Dingle (who pled guilty earlier), lured Chisom from his bedroom before shooting him multiple times and fleeing the scene. Surveillance footage captured both men entering and exiting the building, and additional video tracked their movements across the city.

Despite attempts to avoid capture, both suspects surrendered within hours. Forensic analysis tied the murder weapons to Bashaw and Dingle, and DNA placed Bashaw at the scene. A recorded jail call in which Bashaw admitted to the murder was also presented as key evidence during the trial.

Authorities believe the killing was connected to a prior non-fatal shooting at the same residence, though Chisom was not considered the original shooter.

Schenectady County District Attorney Robert M. Carney praised the swift verdict, and Bashaw now faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life when sentenced on October 24, 2025.
