DANVILLE, Va. (BTW21) – A homicide investigation is underway in Danville following the death of 78-year-old Arvel Shrewsbury, who was found deceased inside a residence on Pineview Drive on the afternoon of Friday, March 7.
According to the Danville Police Department, officers were called to the 100 block of Pineview Drive around 4:00 p.m. after receiving information that led them to execute a search warrant for the residence. Upon entry, they discovered Shrewsbury’s body.
As investigators worked the scene, they were able to quickly identify and locate a suspect, Jeanette Perez Staton, 58, at another location within city limits. Authorities confirmed that Staton was known to the victim and took her into custody without incident.
Staton has since been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Shrewsbury’s death. The exact cause of death has not yet been disclosed, and authorities say the investigation remains active and ongoing.
