Jean-Claude Van Damme Under Investigation in Romania for Alleged Human Trafficking Links

Romanian authorities have launched a criminal investigation against actor Jean-Claude Van Damme, alleging his involvement in a human trafficking case. The complaint, filed with the Romanian Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), accuses the 64-year-old actor of knowingly engaging in sexual relations with women trafficked by a criminal group led by Morel Bolea.

According to reports from CNN affiliate Antena 3, the alleged incident took place in Cannes, where Van Damme is accused of receiving five Romanian women as a “gift,” despite being aware they were victims of trafficking.

Attorney Adrian Cuculis, who represents one of the victims, stated that the women were in a vulnerable state and possibly exploited under Article 182 of Romania’s Criminal Code. A witness to the event reportedly provided testimony to prosecutors, prompting DIICOT to open a formal investigation.

“Several Romanians, who are currently being investigated for forming a criminal group and engaging in trafficking, allegedly offered Jean-Claude Van Damme five Romanian photo models for sexual relations. The person who received these benefits knew their condition,” Cuculis told Antena 3 in a translated statement.

This incident is part of a broader investigation into human trafficking and the exploitation of minors, which began in 2020. The High Court of Cassation in France must authorize criminal proceedings before Van Damme and other suspects are summoned to Romania for questioning.

Jean-Claude Van Damme, best known for action films such as Bloodsport, Kickboxer, and The Expendables 2, has yet to publicly comment on the allegations. DIICOT has also not released an official statement regarding the investigation.
