GREENWICH, Conn. — An 18-year-old Bridgeport man, Jayden Ganthier, has been arrested and charged in connection with a car theft incident that resulted in a man being injured by gunfire, according to the Greenwich Police Department.

Ganthier was taken into custody Wednesday at his Bridgeport residence on a felony arrest warrant, stemming from a car theft that occurred around 5 a.m. Tuesday on the west side of Greenwich.

When officers responded to the scene, they found a man with injuries to his lower extremities, described by police as minor. According to the victim, the injuries were sustained after he confronted individuals stealing a vehicle, during which one of the suspects fired a gun. Investigators later confirmed the injuries were caused by shrapnel, not a direct gunshot.

Ganthier is now facing multiple charges, including:

First-degree assault

Additional offenses related to the vehicle theft and shooting

The investigation is ongoing, and police have not disclosed whether other suspects are being pursued.
