JACKSONVILLE, TX — A 23-year-old man with a violent criminal history was arrested Tuesday morning with the help of the Cherokee County Regional SWAT team after allegedly committing a burglary with a stolen firearm.
Jayden Duane Hopson was caught on surveillance footage around 8:00 a.m., reportedly using a stolen AK-47-style pistol to carry out the burglary.
Due to Hopson’s prior charges for murder and aggravated robbery, the Cherokee County Regional Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team was activated to assist with his arrest. Officers executed a warrant at his residence in Jacksonville, where Hopson was taken into custody without incident.
During the search of the home, authorities recovered the stolen firearm. Four additional individuals were detained for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials say more charges may be pending.
The regional SWAT team is comprised of members from the Jacksonville Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, and Bullard Police Department.
