In a major breakthrough, Rae Bareli police arrested three cyber fraudsters who orchestrated a nationwide scam worth over Rs900 crore, duping more than 100 individuals. The accused have been identified as Javed Jalal and Mathiazhagan from Chennai, and Dilshad Alam from Bihar.
According to Additional SP Sanjeev Sinha, the trio set up a shell company named Vanavil Business Solutions in Chennai to launder proceeds from cybercrimes. The gang lured victims with fraudulent offers including Dubai holiday packages, iPhones, lottery prizes, and exotic honeymoon deals.
The scheme involved extracting money under the pretense of registration fees and charges. Investigators traced suspicious transactions in two Axis Bank accounts totaling Rs907 crore, leading to the arrests.
Sinha stated that the fraud network extended across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu, operating under a larger cybercrime syndicate. Using forged documents, the gang opened multiple bank accounts to route the scam proceeds. These were used for withdrawals, bill payments, and mobile recharges, earning commissions.
Javed revealed he met Mathiazhagan at Nxtigen Services in Madurai in 2018, where they connected with Mehtab Alam, who helped launch Vanavil Business Solutions. Their fintech app, Alpha Pay, generated massive commissions until accounts were flagged and frozen—prompting the group to open new accounts and continue operations.
Mehtab’s brother, Dilshad Alam, acted as an Alpha Pay agent, managing a high-volume e-wallet. Sanjay Pandey, an agent from Rae Bareli, is currently absconding and suspected of holding a large portion of the gang’s funds.
Sinha noted, “This network mimicked a shadow banking system. Funds were layered and routed strategically to evade detection.”
Forensic audits are ongoing, and authorities are tracking digital wallets and related shell companies. The three accused have been sent to judicial custody, with more arrests expected as the probe expands nationwide.
