JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. — An Alabama man is in custody following a two-month investigation into a drive-by shooting near Graceville High School in Jackson County, Florida.
On May 13, 2025, around 6 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received several 911 calls reporting gunshots fired from a vehicle traveling north on Highway 77.
Responding deputies and Graceville Police Officers arrived quickly at the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Witnesses told investigators that the shots came from a passenger in the backseat of a moving car.
Authorities recovered two shell casings from the roadway. Surveillance footage from surrounding businesses played a key role in identifying the suspect.
On July 23, an arrest warrant was issued for Jatavion Collins, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, charging him with Discharging a Firearm from a Vehicle within 1,000 Feet of a Person.
Collins was apprehended on July 31, 2025, by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force and is now behind bars awaiting further legal proceedings.
