Jason Wallace Jailed Ahead of Theft Sentencing

Tampa Contractor’s Bond Revoked in Elderly Fraud Case

by Sophia Bennett

TAMPA, Fla. — Jason Wallace will spend the next month in jail after a Hillsborough County judge revoked his bond ahead of sentencing in a felony theft case.

Wallace previously pleaded guilty in January to charges of stealing from an elderly victim and failing to obtain workers’ compensation coverage. He was scheduled to be sentenced this week, but the hearing was postponed due to a last-minute change in defense attorneys.

The case stems from allegations that Wallace took more than $70,000 from Deloris Hilliard for home improvement work at her Hillsborough County residence that was never completed. Hilliard said she used inheritance funds to pay Wallace and expressed relief as deputies took him into custody following the bond revocation.

Prosecutors noted Wallace has prior convictions in Pasco County related to unlicensed contracting and was ordered to pay restitution in those cases. Authorities said he has not made payments in either case. Additional accusations have surfaced from individuals in New Jersey who claim they paid Wallace for incomplete work.

Wallace’s next court appearance is scheduled for late March, when a new sentencing date is expected to be set.
