On February 24, 2025, State Police arrested 43-year-old Jason Cruz of Schenectady on multiple warrants related to forgery and grand larceny charges. Cruz faces a series of serious charges, including four counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument and three counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree.

The investigation into Cruz’s fraudulent activities began in August 2022, when State Police were alerted to complaints about suspicious bank account activity from Erie County residents. The investigation revealed that on August 8, 2022, Cruz attempted to cash a forged check at a financial institution in Halfmoon, New York. In the same period, Cruz was involved in cashing a forged check in Troy, New York, resulting in the theft of over $1,000.

Later, on August 23, 2022, additional complaints were filed from Greene County, reporting similar fraudulent activity. Investigators uncovered that Cruz had cashed two fraudulent checks in Mechanicville and Clifton Park on August 5, 2022, which led to the theft of more than $7,000.

After a thorough investigation, multiple arrest warrants were issued for Cruz, leading to his eventual capture. Cruz was assisted by the Schenectady Police Department and transported to SP Clifton Park and SP Brunswick, where he was processed on all charges.

Cruz was arraigned at both the Clifton Park Town Court and the Troy City Court, where he was released on his own recognizance from both courts.
