On June 26, 2025, Jason Castle, 48, from Sierra County, was sentenced for felony theft from an elder while acting as a caregiver, along with a misdemeanor conviction for identity theft. Between January and October 25, 2023, Castle unlawfully took funds from an elderly woman under his care in Sierra City.
Castle received a mid-term sentence of three years in state prison under California’s realignment statutes, to be served as two years in custody followed by one year of mandatory supervision. He was taken into custody immediately after sentencing.
Additionally, Castle was ordered to pay $4,340.98 in restitution to the victim’s family. The Sierra County District Attorney’s Office stressed the severity of this breach of trust, given Castle’s role as a caregiver during the offenses.
This case underscores the commitment of Sierra County law enforcement and prosecutors to aggressively pursue individuals who exploit vulnerable community members.
