Authorities in Jefferson County, Illinois, have arrested a suspect in connection with a homicide in Belle Rive.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said detectives arrested 31-year-old Jasmine L. Farny of Dahlgren on Monday evening, Feb. 2, on charges of first-degree murder.

The investigation began after a caller reported finding 47-year-old James D. Cross, also of Dahlgren, unresponsive in a parking lot in the 21800 block of E. Bonnie Road around 7:12 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1. When deputies arrived, Cross was pronounced dead. An autopsy later confirmed he died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The Illinois State Police crime scene technicians, along with detectives from Mount Vernon Police Department, assisted in the investigation.

Detectives located and interviewed Farny, who was subsequently booked into the Jefferson County Jail pending her pretrial detention hearing. Authorities noted that Farny and Cross were previously in a relationship.

The investigation is ongoing.
