Sydney, Australia – Police have arrested 34-year-old James Shaine Dowd, whose mother, Kim Duncan, was fatally shot during a drive-by attack in Ambarvale earlier this week. Authorities confirmed the arrest was for unrelated matters and that Dowd is not linked to his mother’s death.
The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Monday on Dickens Road in Sydney’s south-west. Kim Duncan, 65, suffered a fatal leg wound after multiple shots were fired into the home. Police believe she was not the intended target of the attack.
Dowd and a 21-year-old woman were inside the home during the shooting but were uninjured. On Wednesday morning, Dowd was arrested during a traffic stop near the scene. A second man, aged 32, was also arrested nearby on Copperfield Drive. Both were taken to Campbelltown Police Station and are assisting with investigations.
As of now, neither man has been charged, and police have stated there is no suggestion either were involved in the drive-by shooting.
Detective Superintendent Grant Healey said investigators are continuing to work with Dowd and the 21-year-old woman to understand what happened.
“Initially they were cooperating, but we’re still working with them to get more information,” Healey said.
“They had only recently moved into the home, and this was the first time police had been called there.”
At least three suspects involved in the shooting remain on the run. Authorities are urging anyone with information or footage to contact NSW Police.
