TALLADEGA, AL — A 35-year-old man, James Justin Watts Hayes, was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly breaking into a home on Jackson Trace Road, according to the Talladega Police Department.
Officers responded to the 4100 block of Jackson Trace Road at 2:42 a.m. on April 19 following a residential burglary call. The homeowner reported returning to find his front door open and a white male walking inside the residence. He detained the suspect until police arrived.
Upon searching Hayes, officers reportedly found a gold ring belonging to the victim in his pants pocket. Detectives were then notified, and Hayes was taken into custody.
According to Lt. Dennis McDaniel, Hayes was charged with burglary in the third degree, a Class C felony in Alabama, carrying a possible sentence of one year and one day up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
Additionally, Talladega County Metro Jail records show Hayes was also charged with providing false identification to law enforcement, though it’s unclear if the charge is directly related to the burglary.
Hayes remained in custody as of Tuesday afternoon, with bond set by a magistrate in Talladega County District Court.
