James Cornelius Miles Accused in $3,200 HVAC Scam

Smyrna man charged with real estate payment conversion

by Amelia Crawford

James Cornelius Miles, a 56-year-old resident of Smyrna, has been arrested and booked into the Floyd County Jail following allegations of contractor fraud.

According to police reports, Miles received a payment of $3,200 from a homeowner on Cambridge Drive on April 4, 2024, for the installation of a new HVAC system. However, authorities say he failed to deliver the system or complete any of the agreed-upon work.

As a result, Miles now faces a felony charge for conversion of payments for real property improvement, a charge commonly applied in real estate fraud cases where funds are misappropriated after being paid in advance for home services.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no court date has yet been released.
