The Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested a woman of Ugandan origin for allegedly running a systematic narcotics supply operation, transporting MDMA from Bengaluru to Mangaluru for distribution among youths in the coastal city.
The accused, identified as Jalia Zhalwango, was arrested at Jigani on the outskirts of Bengaluru with 4 kilograms of MDMA, police said. The seized synthetic drug is estimated to be worth around Rs 4 crore in the illegal market.
Police officials said Zhalwango was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. She is expected to be taken into police custody for further interrogation to uncover the full extent of the trafficking network, according to the police commissioner.
Authorities said the arrest marks a major breakthrough in dismantling a drug supply chain targeting Mangaluru. Earlier, six drug peddlers linked to the same network had been arrested in Mangaluru and are currently lodged in judicial custody.
Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the MDMA, identify additional accomplices, and determine interstate and international links in the drug trafficking operation.
