A man from Maidenhead has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 19 years following the murder of a man in Slough.
Jakub Nowicki, 40, of Ascot Road, was arrested in April 2025 after police were called to a property on Grant Avenue in response to reports of a domestic assault.
When officers arrived at around 6.45am on April 25, they found an injured woman outside the address with visible injuries. Inside the property, police discovered Tomasz Kopec suffering from severe head injuries.
Mr Kopec was taken to hospital but died two days later, on April 27, despite specialist medical treatment.
A post-mortem examination later confirmed that his injuries were consistent with a prolonged assault involving multiple blows to the head.
The second victim, a 34-year-old woman, sustained injuries during the incident and required minimal medical treatment. She has since made a full recovery.
Nowicki was arrested on the day of the incident and charged the following day. Following an 11-day trial at Reading Crown Court, a jury unanimously found him guilty of murder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm on November 10. He had previously pleaded guilty to criminal damage.
At a sentencing hearing on November 17, Nowicki was handed a mandatory life sentence with a minimum term of 19 years. He also received an 18-month sentence for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and a one-month sentence for criminal damage, both to run concurrently.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said the investigation led to swift action and justice for the victims.
