Jaipur Gang Arrested for Fake Government Recruitment Scam

Fraudsters swindled Rs70 lakh from job seekers by impersonating officials

by Ananya Mehta

On Wednesday, Jaipur City Police revealed the dismantling of a sophisticated fake recruitment operation, where a gang orchestrated fraudulent recruitment drives to deceive job seekers. The gang had been conducting these fake recruitment drives at various hotels in Jaipur, swindling aspirants of government jobs by posing as legitimate officials.

The scam was meticulously executed, with the fraudsters employing tactics to earn the trust of the victims. One of the members of the gang posed as a medical practitioner, administering bogus medical tests to job aspirants, while another member supervised the process. These fake medical assessments included basic physical tests such as height, weight, and vision checks, all designed to convince the victims that they were participating in legitimate government recruitment procedures.

The police investigation led to the arrest of Deepak Jain alias RK Agarwal from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, on March 20. Jain was found to be impersonating an IAS officer as part of the gang’s operation. The gang managed to defraud 14 job seekers of Rs70 lakh by promising them non-existent positions in the Rajasthan Assembly and the Secretariat.

To build credibility and gain the victims’ trust, the scammers used vehicles similar to those used by bureaucrats, and initially showed the victims offer letters on a laptop, claiming they were legitimate selections from the Assembly’s website. These actions helped the fraudsters convince the victims that the recruitment process was genuine, leading them to invest large sums of money in exchange for supposed job placements.

The police have confirmed that Jain was a central figure in this elaborate scam, which exploited the hopes of job seekers eager to secure government positions. Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest additional gang members involved in the operation, and police are working to ensure that similar scams are prevented in the future.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance when dealing with job offers, especially those involving large sums of money, and underscores the growing need for awareness about such deceptive practices.
