MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) — A tragic case of domestic violence has resulted in murder charges against a 17-year-old girl in Mobile County. Authorities say Jailen Mia Lupton has been arrested for the brutal killing of her grandmother, Diane Marrow Trest, age 69.
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on July 27 and found Trest unresponsive in her front yard with visible head trauma. A mallet was discovered nearby, and Trest was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to MCSO investigators, witnesses reported that Lupton had confessed to the killing. Two individuals told deputies they were flagged down by a female who claimed Diane Trest had been beaten to death by her granddaughter. One of them then called 911.
Another neighbor reported that Lupton forced her way into their home, knocked the resident down, and demanded car keys, saying she had just killed her grandmother.
Lupton (DOB: 06/10/2007) was arrested shortly after and is now facing charges of Murder and Burglary in the Second Degree. She remains in custody as the investigation continues.
