A Daytona woman accused of fraud appeared unfazed by her arrest, laughing as deputies placed her in handcuffs, according to authorities.
Jacqueline James, 21, is facing charges of grand theft and fraudulently obtaining property valued under $20,000. Investigators with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office say James was involved in a bank phone scam that cost a victim nearly $1,700.
Although James voluntarily turned herself in, deputies said she refused to identify any other individuals who may have participated in the scam.
Body camera footage released by authorities shows James giggling shortly after her arrest, a reaction deputies described as unusual given the seriousness of the charges.
During the investigation, detectives were able to trace the stolen funds directly to James’ bank account. Records showed the money had already been spent, according to the sheriff’s office.
James was booked into the Martin County Jail, where a judge later set her bond at $10,000.
Deputies noted that financial scams remain a growing problem in the area, with more than $12 million defrauded from victims in Martin County over the past two years.
