A man from North Carolina was arrested outside ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville on Tuesday evening after he was found with a loaded AK-47-style gun. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. when hospital authorities called the police regarding a man carrying a firearm near the medical center on Stantonsburg Road.
The individual, identified as Jacob Tripp, was charged with having a firearm on educational property. In addition to the loaded AK-47-style gun, Tripp was found in possession of 20 bullets and a gun magazine. Despite the presence of the weapon, the hospital was able to continue operations without interruption.
Jacob Tripp was released from custody after posting a $5,000 bond. ECU Health representatives assured that the safety of their staff, patients, and visitors remains their top priority, and the situation was handled promptly by ECU Health Police without incident.
