Traffic Stop in Livermore Leads to Arrest for Meth, Copper Theft
LIVERMORE, CA — A routine traffic stop on July 1 led to the arrest of 24-year-old Jacob A. Ward of Livermore, after officers discovered methamphetamine, stolen copper, and cash in his possession.
The stop occurred in the 3000 block of Las Positas Road when officers noticed Ward’s pickup truck had an expired registration sticker. A subsequent ID check revealed Ward had an active Ramey warrant from Lathrop Police related to a commercial burglary in San Joaquin County involving the theft of hundreds of pounds of copper wire.
Upon searching the vehicle, Livermore police found scrap copper, 40 grams of methamphetamine, and more than $1,700 in cash. Officers also recovered drug paraphernalia.
Ward was arrested on multiple charges including:
Possession and transportation of a controlled substance for sale
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Burglary (warrant)
Receiving or concealing stolen property
He was booked into Santa Rita Jail in the early hours of July 2 and remains in custody on $100,000 bond. Authorities also noted Ward was previously arrested in January for drug-related offenses.
