Social media helped ID suspect in Myers Street vandalism

by Sophia Bennett

OROVILLE, Calif. — The Oroville Police Department’s Community Strike Team has arrested a suspect following a copper theft incident at a local business on Myers Street.

The theft occurred Monday night, and by Tuesday morning, officers had identified and arrested 33-year-old Jack Mabry, an Oroville resident, at a nearby business. Surveillance footage posted on social media played a crucial role in identifying Mabry as the suspect.

He now faces charges of felony vandalism and possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia. Mabry was booked into Butte County Jail.

The arrest highlights the proactive approach of Oroville’s Community Strike Team, formed by Interim Chief of Police Jason Wines. The team focuses on tackling high-impact crimes affecting local businesses and neighborhoods, often using modern strategies like monitoring social media.

The investigation remains ongoing.
