In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, Thane district police arrested Isa Bakayoka, a 37-year-old national of Ivory Coast, and seized 1.51 kilograms of mephedrone (MD) worth approximately Rs 2.12 crore. The arrest took place in Nilje, located in Dombivli town, during a late-night police operation on July 7.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Kalyan Zone-III) Atul Zende, the arrest followed a specific tip-off that a person would arrive in Nilje carrying illegal narcotics for sale. A trap was set, and Bakayoka was apprehended at around 10:50 PM with the synthetic stimulant in his possession.
Following the arrest, the Manpada police station registered a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The seized substance, mephedrone, is a potent synthetic drug known for its euphoric effects and high potential for abuse.
DCP Zende also revealed that this arrest comes shortly after another major seizure worth Rs 2 crore, involving the arrest of five individuals. He stated that in the past eight days alone, police in the Nilje and Palava regions have seized narcotics valued at over Rs 4 crore, signaling an intensified crackdown on drug trafficking networks in the region.
