HOLTON, Kan. — Two men from Topeka were arrested Monday in Jackson County after a traffic stop led to the discovery of illegal drugs.
The stop occurred around 10:30 p.m. near 118th Road and US-75 highway on the northwest edge of Hoyt. A Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy pulled over a 2015 Dodge Journey for multiple alleged traffic violations.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Irving Dawayne Edwards, and passenger, 22-year-old Juantario Isia Roberts, were found with illegal drugs after a Jackson County Sheriff’s K-9 alerted to their presence.
Edwards was booked into the Jackson County Jail on charges including distribution of stimulants and marijuana, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without insurance, and unlawful display of license plates. He was released by Wednesday afternoon.
Roberts faces similar drug charges, along with possession of marijuana with a prior conviction and failure to pay the required drug tax stamp. He remained in jail on a $20,000 bond.
Authorities did not immediately release additional details.
