Kalaburagi police have arrested seven members of the notorious Irani Gang, known for carrying out violent robberies across multiple states, including Maharashtra, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. The gang used fake police uniforms, ID cards, and number plates to deceive citizens and steal gold and other valuables.
The gang operated by having two members pose as police inspectors, displaying counterfeit ID cards to gain trust, while the remaining members surrounded victims and quickly snatched jewellery during so-called inspections. They frequently altered mobile phones, SIM cards, and vehicle plates to evade detection.
The arrested members have been identified as Zaheer Abbas, Ali Razak, Lal Sameer, Khaseem Jafri, Alimirza, Jafar Ali Syed, and Jafar Syed, all with criminal histories spanning multiple states. During the arrest, police recovered 90 grams of gold ornaments valued at Rs15 lakh.
Investigations revealed that Zaheer Abbas, formerly of Parli, had prior convictions in 15 robbery cases but returned to crime, while Lal Sameer had previous robbery links in Bengaluru. The gang’s multi-state criminal operations included previous robberies in Mahbubnagar, using the same police disguise tactics.
The case has been registered at the Sub-Urban Police Station of Kalaburagi, and further investigations are underway to uncover the gang’s wider network.
