Ipswich Man Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison for Drug Offences and Fake ID
A 24-year-old man from Ipswich, Gleris Dega, was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to drug-related crimes and using a fake identity. The sentence was handed down at Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday, April 15.
Dega was arrested following a police stop in Newmarket on March 10. He presented officers with a fake UK driving licence, which contained his photograph but bore a different name and date of birth. Upon searching Dega, officers discovered cocaine hidden in his underwear.
Further investigations uncovered a significant amount of evidence linking Dega to drug distribution across Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, including photos of his passport and a script detailing what to say if stopped by police. In addition to his sentence, Dega’s car was subject to a deprivation order, and £485 in seized cash was ordered to be donated to a charitable cause chosen by the court.
Sergeant George Laflin of the Sentinel West team praised the officers’ thorough efforts in uncovering Dega’s true identity despite his attempts to conceal it. “Our job is to make Suffolk a hostile place for criminals,” Laflin said, “and we will continue to take decisive action against those who try to commit crimes in our area.”
