NORTH YORK — Police have arrested a man and a woman in connection to a distraction theft that occurred in the Rustic and Liscombe roads area on September 20 around 2:25 p.m.
According to investigators, an elderly victim was sitting outside their home when a woman approached and engaged them in conversation. The woman distracted the victim and stole their jewelry before fleeing the scene with a man.
Toronto police have identified and arrested 35-year-old Ionel Petter, who faces charges including theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, participation in a criminal organization, and driving a vehicle without plates. He is scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre.
Florina Gheorghe, 33, was also arrested and charged with theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and participation in a criminal organization. She is set to appear at the same court.
Authorities suspect there may be additional victims linked to this case. The investigation remains ongoing.
