Inmates Charged with Fentanyl at Cayuga Jail

George Burgman and Jayson Clark face felony charges

by Sophia Bennett

A Cayuga County Jail search on November 23 led to the discovery of suspected fentanyl, resulting in felony charges for two incarcerated men.

George Burgman, 47, and Jayson Clark, 45, were found in possession of the drugs after jail staff noticed potential contraband. Laboratory testing later confirmed the substance was fentanyl.

Both men were charged on December 1 with first-degree promoting prison contraband, a class D felony. They were arraigned that evening and remain in custody.

Authorities stated the seized fentanyl was immediately turned over to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.

The sheriff’s office encourages anyone with information to contact them directly or submit an anonymous tip via the SaferWatch app or the department’s website.
