In a chilling twist to a suspected suicide case, the HAL Police on Saturday arrested a 54-year-old software engineer, Imdad Basha, for allegedly poisoning his 45-year-old female friend to death.
Initially believed to be a case of suicide, the police grew suspicious following inconsistencies in the victim’s medical report and communication records. Upon reviewing the call detail records, investigators zeroed in on Basha, who was later arrested and charged with murder.
Authorities revealed that Basha planned the poisoning to make it look like his friend had taken her own life. However, forensic and digital evidence pointed toward premeditated homicide.
He has been remanded to judicial custody, and further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the crime and whether anyone else was involved.
