Ikbal Hussain Others Held as Assam Seizes Rs16 Cr in Drugs

Cachar and Karbi Anglong top major heroin, morphine busts

In a major offensive against the narcotics trade, Assam Police, in collaboration with Assam Rifles and the Anti-Rhino Force Intelligence Unit (ARFIU), carried out multiple raids resulting in drug seizures worth over Rs16 crore across Cachar and Karbi Anglong districts.

In the most recent operation on Tuesday, a joint team from the Cachar Police, Assam Rifles, and ARFIU recovered 648 grams of heroin valued at approximately Rs3.5 crore, along with one pistol, during a raid in Cachar district. The accused, Ikbal Hussain Mazumder, was arrested from Silchar with 84 grams of heroin in a related bust.

“The relentless anti-narcotics ops continue. In an anti-narcotics operation carried out by Cachar Police, ARFIU, and Assam Rifles, 648g heroin worth Rs3.5 crore and 1 pistol were recovered. 1 peddler has been arrested.”

Seizure of 4.899 kg of morphine, valued at Rs5 crore. One peddler arrested.

1.239 kg of heroin worth Rs6.5 crore seized by Cachar Police and the Special Task Force (STF). Three suspects arrested.

Heroin worth Rs3.16 crore recovered in an earlier raid, with another individual arrested.

These operations underscore Assam’s intensified crackdown on narcotics trafficking. Officials emphasize that these coordinated raids are part of a broader strategy to dismantle smuggling networks operating across interstate and international borders.
