Narberth, UK – A 19-year-old man, Ieuan Duffy, has been sentenced to three years and five months in a Young Offender Institution after being caught with large quantities of drugs and cash at his home in Hill Park, Narberth.
The case began when officers executed a search warrant at Duffy’s home and uncovered 151.86 grams of cannabis, £430.25 in cash, and drug-dealing paraphernalia, including electronic scales, zip lock bags, and two mobile phones. A drug expert valued the cannabis at approximately £1,680, and analysis of the phones revealed messages consistent with drug dealing.
Although Duffy was initially released on bail pending further investigation, officers returned to his home on January 27 this year in connection to an unrelated offence. A second search uncovered a bag containing 28 grams of cocaine, 427 grams of cannabis, two more mobile phones, a set of digital scales, and £3,032.92 in cash. The estimated street value of the cocaine was £2,000, while the cannabis was worth £4,740.
Duffy, who had no previous convictions, pleaded guilty. His defense lawyer, Dan Griffiths, explained that Duffy’s own drug use spiraled, leading to addiction and ultimately to dealing drugs to pay off debts. He argued that delays in prosecuting Duffy after his initial arrest contributed to his reoffending.
“This case does expose some of the clear issues with the system,” Griffiths told the court, emphasizing that earlier intervention could have prevented further offences.
In court, Duffy read a letter expressing remorse, calling himself “naïve and gullible” and acknowledging he had let his family and community down.
Judge Huw Rees told Duffy, “You’ve been a fool, unto yourself. You have acknowledged that.”
A Proceeds of Crime Act application has also been filed to recover any profits made from Duffy’s illegal activity. He is due to return to court for a confiscation hearing on August 8.
