Ian Douglas Arrested After Accidental Shooting Kills Father in Bradenton

76-Year-Old Dies in Home Shooting; Son Faces Manslaughter Charges

BRADENTON, Fla. — A 76-year-old man died Tuesday afternoon after an accidental shooting inside a Bradenton home. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reported that the victim, Andrew Douglas, was shot in the neck and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities arrested Andrew’s 35-year-old son, Ian Douglas, who was charged with manslaughter by culpable negligence. Deputies responded to a shooting report in the 12300 block of Baypointe Terrace, where Ian Douglas was found administering aid to his injured father.

During the investigation, Ian Douglas told deputies that he was showing his father a handgun when it accidentally discharged. Despite the efforts of first responders, Andrew Douglas succumbed to his injuries shortly after the incident.

Ian Douglas was booked into the Manatee County Jail. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
