WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) — A wanted man was taken into custody Friday morning following a multi-hour standoff at Kerr Crossing Apartments in Wilmington.

Wilmington Police say officers responded around 4:30 a.m. on August 15 to a domestic disturbance involving 35-year-old Hykeem Gaymon, who had allegedly forced his way into his sister’s apartment and refused to leave.

Gaymon reportedly barricaded himself inside, prompting a response from the SWAT team and the Cape Fear Regional Special Teams Crisis Negotiation Unit. He was arrested around 9:30 a.m. following negotiations that included help from nearby neighbors and family members.

At the time of the arrest, Gaymon had no weapons on him, though police later found a firearm in the apartment after executing a search warrant.

He now faces multiple charges:

2 counts of breaking and entering with intent to terrorize

2 counts of assault on a female

1 count of assault by pointing a gun

Police say additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

Gaymon is currently being held without bond and is expected in court on Monday, August 18.
